In his presentation, Dr. Harsono will discuss several new pediatric critical care approaches such as management of several common pediatric illnesses in pediatric ICU, utilization of goal-directed therapy, roles of various prevention bundle and strategies, non-invasive management, multiple organ extracorporeal support therapies. The “more is better” approach for blood pressure and fluid management has significant detrimental effects. Selecting optimal quantities and types of fluid and blood products for resuscitation, recognizing patients for whom permissive hypotension is appropriate and choosing suitable endpoints of resuscitation are important components of this approach. It’s a progressive disease with no cure. We are much better at identifying and treating it these days, but with the best of therapies, there is at best a 70 percent survival rate at five years.
