Speaker for this CME Activity

Emerging research has identified a strong relationship between the gastrointestinal system and the nervous system. This relationship is often termed the gut-brain axis, where physiologic processes or disease in one system can affect the other. Novel therapeutic approaches that target one system to benefit the other are currently under investigation. This presentation will provide an overview of the gut-brain axis and current/future treatment approaches.Desired Outcomes:
- To describe some mechanisms in the relationship between the gastrointestinal and nervous systems.
- To understand how digestive diseases can cause neurologic diseases, and vice versa.
- To explore current and potential therapies that target the gastrointestinal system to benefit the nervous system, and vice versa.
