Approximately 35% of significant injuries occur as the result of accidents in the very environment that should be the most sheltering and nurturing to children. Most pediatric trauma occurs as a result of blunt trauma, with penetrating injury accounting for 10-20% of all pediatric trauma admissions at most centers. We will review basic approaches to pediatric trauma including case presentations and literature review. We will review NMC policies regarding pediatric trauma activations.
